Adventures of a Lightworker: Dead End Date by Caroline A. Shearer

GIVEAWAY and Blog Tour Time!!! I'd like to share with you all an interesting new book. Read on...

From Goodreads:
"Adventures of a Lightworker: Dead End Date" by Caroline A. Shearer is the first in a new series about a woman's crusade to teach the world about love, one mystery and personal hang-up at a time.

In a Stephanie Plum meets New Age-style, "Dead End Date" introduces readers to Faith, a young woman whose dating disasters and personal angst have separated her from the reason she's on Earth. When she receives the shocking news that she is a lightworker and has one year to fulfill her life purpose, Faith embarks on her mission with zeal, tackling problems big and small - including the death of her blind date. Working with angels and psychic abilities and even the murder victim himself, Faith dives headfirst into a personal journey that will transform all those around her and, eventually, all those around the world.

A fun, fast-paced metaphysical mystery!

"More and more people are reaching within for their innate spirituality, and, in that search, are beginning to bring harmony to their inner and outer worlds," says Shearer. "However, as thought patterns and unconscious habits and negative actions crumble, life can feel like a tumultuous journey. The main character of Faith exemplifies this progression. She takes a step forward in one area, only to stumble backwards in another, but through her wit and charm and ability to laugh at herself, we discover how we, also, may be gentle with ourselves and learn to love the ride."

"Adventures of a Lightworker: Dead End Date" is a mystery novel, as will be each book in the Lightworker series. The spiritual theme and Faith's life purpose as a lightworker are larger elements that come into play over the course of the series. Look for much growth in Faith's character - and have fun along with her as she stumbles to her highest and greatest good!

Dead End Date prolog:

Caroline A. Shearer Interview:

Caroline was kind enough to answer a few questions for me:

Book-Savvy:     Tell us how you came up with the premise behind your book.

Caroline A. Shearer:     "It was definitely a multi-step process. I started first with wanting to write a mystery because that is what I like to read. I’ve been hooked on mysteries pretty much since my first Nancy Drew book in the third grade. I still remember my mom taking me to the library and introducing me to the series! Secondly, I knew I wanted a fun female protagonist. Being single myself, the idea of having her blind date end up dead seemed like the awful kind of irony that perhaps reflected my state of mind at the time!
"From there, I was exploring my own spirituality and psychic abilities so I wanted to incorporate that element into the story – she could work the mystery utilizing these extra sensory skills. And that is the way “Dead End Date” stayed for a long time. It wasn’t until the book was mostly written that I decided to draw upon a life-changing moment I’d had and make her a lightworker. From that point on, everything felt right and I knew I’d found the basis for the series I’d been dreaming of writing!"

Book-Savvy:     What was the most challenging part of writing Adventures of a Lightworker?
Caroline A. Shearer:     "Finishing it! I always kept faith that there was Divine Timing involved, but there were definitely moments when it felt like I was working so much – and yes, accomplishing – but yet not really getting there! The amount of work that goes into writing a book is incredible! At the same time, I had to undergo a certain amount of personal transformation to be able to communicate those lessons and messages through my main character, Faith. While she is not me, much of what I have learned and experienced is tangible through her, and that continually pushes me to grow. People who are ready to evolve their souls will find comfort in the character of Faith and will discover guidance from her experiences. People who are not in that phase of their lives will simply find it a fun read.
"I do want to say something about perseverance. A lot of you may be writers out there, but no matter what your dream is, it’s up to you to pursue it. Claim your own personal power, and understand that you, you, you have to believe in it and believe that you can accomplish it. There were many tough times, many times when people questioned my judgment, and many times when I could have decided to turn toward what felt more “safe” -- but I honestly just dug in my heels and said, “Whatever the consequences, I’m prepared. Nothing will dissuade me. This is what I want.” And I went after it."

Book-Savvy:     Which of your characters do you personally relate to the most?
Caroline A. Shearer:     "Faith, of course! We are so much alike. I made sure to put at least a few differences in there so people wouldn’t assume we are one and the same! One big difference is I am actually a great cook! It’s another creative release for me. I’m one of those, “pull everything out, make a big mess, put in lots of great ingredients, and see what happens” cooks! And then I like for someone else to do the cleaning"

Book-Savvy:     If you had to start all over from the beginning, what, if anything, would you change?
Caroline A. Shearer:     "Not a darn thing. I am one of those people who does not believe in regret. Everything happens as it is meant to happen, and wherever we are at whatever moment is exactly where we are meant to be! If I’d manifested a trust fund to live off of while I wrote, I might still be dreaming about being an author instead of actually becoming one. If I’d already found my soulmate and life partner, I might have been too blissful to accurately convey Faith’s angst and discontent, which is the basis for the incredible transformation that will take place in her life over the course of the series. Nope, wouldn’t change a thing"

Book-Savvy:     If you were stranded on a desert island which of your characters would you choose to be stuck with, and why?
Caroline A. Shearer:     "Leo – if he were straight!"

  2. i read Dead End Date. I enjoyed the "search" that Faith (the main character), went through in solving the mystery. This older, single, girl manuveurs through Austin, Texas' modern chaotic single's environment. She juggles a job,
hunts for clues, impersonates characters, and many times runs for her life. A hero for the american girl.
