HAVEN by Kristi Cook

HavenHaven by Kristi Cook

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Violet McKenna feels like a freak. For years she's been having "episode's" where she blacks out and has visions. She's tried hiding them, ignoring them, playing them off, but the fact is she knows everyone thinks she's a freak-whether they say it to her face, or whisper it behind her back. She "saw" her best friend fall off her bike and break her wrists days before it actually happened... exactly how she foresaw it; she watched her Dad get brutally murdered execution style, tried to warn him, but they all said it was coincidence when it happened. When her Step-Mother accepts a new position in New York, Violet takes the opportunity to start fresh where no one knows her and she can just be a normal teenager. She has no idea just how well she will fit in at Winterhaven, where every student has a secret.
In her first class at Winterhaven Violet meets Aiden, a beautiful, quiet, intelligent guy that appears to feel the same strange connection Violet notices the first time she looks into his mesmerizing eyes. All too soon the visions start again. Always dark and terrifying, and always showing Aiden in danger. As their relationship blossoms, Violet feels compelled to share these visions with Aiden in hopes of saving him from some seemingly horrific fate.
As the story progresses many unexpected secrets are revealed about Violet, Aiden, Winterhaven, Violet new friends, and even her family which makes the book IMPOSSIBLE to put down.
The characters are unique, intriguing, and very well written. The plot is unpredictable, exciting, and very thorough. Haven exudes intelligently written complexities that make it blatantly obvious where Cook's talents and passion lie. I can't wait for an encore! I honestly believe this will be one of the BEST books of 2011
